Monsanto: The World’s Poster Child For Corporate Manipulation And Deceit

A Documented Essay

by Jeffrey M. Smith

(NaturalNews) At a biotech industry conference in January 1999, a representative from Arthur Anderson, LLP explained how they had helped Monsanto design their strategic plan. First, his team asked Monsanto executives what their ideal future looked like in 15 to 20 years. The executives described a world with 100 percent of all commercial seeds genetically modified and patented. Anderson consultants then worked backwards from that goal, and developed the strategy and tactics to achieve it. They presented Monsanto with the steps and procedures needed to obtain a place of industry dominance in a world in which natural seeds were virtually extinct. (more…)

Dying cancer patients are being milked of every last dollar

Tony Isaacs,  on 07/31/2010

Recent studies and reports have revealed that terminal cancer patients are frequently given harsh chemotherapy drugs and radiation treatments long after they have been diagnosed as hopeless. In many instances such treatments continue up until the moment of death. As a result, many cancer patients are subjected to needless expense and suffering and little time is left for alternative treatments that otherwise might have saved their lives.

This March The Oncologist reported that about one in five dying cancer patients are given chemotherapy within 14 days of their deaths. The report also stated that one-third of terminal cancer patients are not sent to a hospice until they have less than three days left to live. Last year, Virginia Commonwealth Massey reported that 25% of Medicare expenses for terminal cancer patients are spent in their final month. (more…)

Stop Taking Osteoporosis Drugs? It’s Never Too Late

Stop Taking Osteoporosis Drugs? It’s Never Too Late

You may already know that bisphosphonates, such as Fosamax, Actonel and Boniva, and others, are a very unattractive option if you want to have strong, flexible and healthy bones.

But what if you’ve already taken these drugs at some point or want to stop taking them? You might be concerned about what happens when you stop them “cold turkey”. Will the drug stay in my bones forever? Did I do permanent damage? Will I ever be able to build bones naturally? Will the Save Our Bones Program work for me? To date, I’ve received thousands of emails asking me just that.

Amazingly, there is little research on this very important subject.

So here are the facts:

There are two main ways by which your body gets rid of the bisphosphonates once you stop taking the drug.

The first – and quickest way – is by elimination via the urine. Studies conducted by maxillofacial surgeons have shown that most of the free-flowing chemical in the bloodstream is eliminated in approximately three to four months. This also includes the release of bisphosphonates from bone surfaces that end up in the bloodstream, because they can’t attach themselves to the bone cells and are simply unused.

That’s how they get cleared out of the bloodstream… but what happens to the bisphosphonates that attach themselves to the bone?

Half of them remain attached to the bone for approximately ten years. That’s according to a study published by The International Bone and Mineral Society titled “Long-Term Bisphosphonates for Osteoporosis: An Introduction” by Gordon J. Strewler of Harvard Medical School.

This may sound like terrible news, but please don’t despair… The same study found that bisphosphonates are active only when they’re on exposed bone surfaces, so as new bone starts to form, it actually covers the bisphosphonates, and “the drug is buried in bone and becomes inactive”.

That’s a quote by Dr. Watts in the Endocrinology & Metabolism Clinics of North America, Volume 27, Issue 2, titled “Treatment of Osteoporosis with Bisphosphonates”.

This should come as great news to you, if you’ve stopped or wish to stop taking the drugs. And here’s the icing on the cake: the same Harvard Medical School study mentioned before reports that bone loss (resorption) gradually resumes after stopping the drugs, and achieves normal (pre-menopausal) levels in approximately five years.

You see, the major osteoporosis and osteopenia drugs close the door on new bone formation, leaving only old and weak bone. But once you’re on the road to having healthy bones the natural way, you’ll be producing new bone that is more flexible and therefore less prone to fractures than old and brittle bone.

Armed with this information if you have doubts about stopping bisphosphonates, you can rest assured that it’s never too late to start on a natural bone health program. There is light at the end of the tunnel

12 Dirtiest Fruits and Vegetables / 15 Cleanest Fruits and Vegetables

Friday, July 30th, 2010

By Josie Glausiusz , Prevention

Scan any supermarket produce section and what do you see? Rows of brightly hued, blemish-free fruits and vegetables. They’re gorgeous. But stop and ask yourself: Without help, could nature consistently deliver such picture-perfect greens and berries, any more than it fashions every woman into a beauty pageant contestant? Of course not. Plants, like people, have natural imperfections—and some require more help than others to look good, not to mention maintain their youthful looks as they age. (more…)

Medicine In Your Spice Cabinet/Spice In Your Medicine Cabinet

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

By Dr. Kenneth Woliner on 07/28/2010

This is interesting...!

Imagine for a moment your worst nightmare. You’ve had a sudden, serious heart event. The ambulance arrives, and the paramedics load you on a gurney.

You’re hoisted into the ambulance. It roars off to the hospital, sirens blaring. Inside, a paramedic opens your shirt and rubs salve on your belly.

The next morning, your cardiologist stops by your hospital bed. “Good news,” she tells you. “Your heart will be fine.”

The reason? It was the salve the paramedics used. Or, rather, something extraordinary in the salve.

That “something extraordinary” is capsaicin. It’s the chemical that makes cayenne pepper hot. But it does a lot more than spice up your food.

We’ve known for years that capsaicin has heart-health benefits. Oxidation of cholesterol is a major cause of clogged arteries. Capsaicin helps your body keep this oxidation under control.(1) It supports healthy levels of cholesterol and fats in your blood, too.(2)

But capsaicin may also support the survival of your heart’s muscle cells. And it works when those cells are under the worst stress – after a major cardiac event. That’s great news, because these events can do a lot of damage.

Here’s the story in a nutshell:

Researchers at the University of Cincinnati had already discovered that making a small cut in the belly of mice – immediately after a serious cardiac event – reduced damage to the heart muscle. In fact, damage to the heart dropped by an incredible 81%.

You see, the incision stimulates certain nerve pathways. The body’s response to this stimulation is to protect the heart… exactly what you need when your heart’s in trouble.

Taking their study a step further, the researchers tested a cream containing capsaicin. The results were amazing. Capsaicin worked even better than their previous technique. Damage to heart tissue plummeted by 85%! Just by applying capsaicin cream to the mouse’s belly.(3)

According to the lead author, Keith Jones, “These are the most powerful cardioprotective effects recorded to date.”

As a doctor, I agree. The numbers are astounding.

If the results are even close in human trials, it will be a major breakthrough. I can’t imagine how many people could be spared extensive heart damage. Or how many lives could be saved.

Plus capsaicin is safe, inexpensive and easy to find in topical form.

Besides running human trials, Jones and his team have plans to look at how this technique may apply to other serious health problems. If it does, it will be a major step forward for natural health.

I’ll be watching for developments… and I’ll fill you in when they happen.

1.Food Made Visible

It might sound odd to say this about something people deal with at least three times a day, but food in America has been more or less invisible, politically speaking, until very recently. At least until the early 1970s, when a bout of food price inflation and the appearance of books critical of industrial agriculture (by Wendell Berry, Francis Moore Lappé, and Barry Commoner, among others) threatened to propel the subject to the top of the national agenda, Americans have not had to think very hard about where their food comes from, or what it is doing to the planet, their bodies, and their society.

Most people count this a blessing. Americans spend a smaller percentage of their income on food than any people in history—slightly less than 10 percent—and a smaller amount of their time preparing it: a mere thirty-one minutes a day on average, including clean-up. The supermarkets brim with produce summoned from every corner of the globe, a steady stream of novel food products (17,000 new ones each year) crowds the middle aisles, and in the freezer case you can find “home meal replacements” in every conceivable ethnic stripe, demanding nothing more of the eater than opening the package and waiting for the microwave to chirp. Considered in the long sweep of human history, in which getting food dominated not just daily life but economic and political life as well, having to worry about food as little as we do, or did, seems almost a kind of dream. Dear Rev. David,

You can drop weight and reduce fat without ever counting a calorie or stepping on a treadmill.

It all depends on what you eat first thing in the morning. You can program your metabolism for the rest of the day.1

When you eat a high-fat breakfast, it turns on your fat-burning metabolism. You’ll drop fat off your body and use up the calories you eat for the rest of the day. (more…)

Study suggests link of cleaners to breast cancer

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Submitted by Drew Kaplan on July 23, 2010

A survey of Massachusetts women has found a potential link between the use of household cleaners and air fresheners and breast cancer.
The study included interviews with 787 women who had breast cancer and 721 who did not. Researchers asked all the women about pesticide use but found little association.
But when about 400 women in each group were asked about cleaning products, researchers found a potential connection.
In fact, breast-cancer risk was highest among women who reported the most use of cleaning products and air fresheners; it was double the risk for those who reported low use of the products. Most study participants were white and middle-aged and were part of the Cape Cod Breast Cancer and Environment Study, which had financial support from the state of Massachusetts. (more…)

Some People are Simply too Self-Deceived to Know They Are Ignorant

LEGGO! I DON'T WANNA LEARN ANYTHING!!

David Dunning, a Cornell professor of social psychology, became fascinated by the true story of McArthur Wheeler, an incompetent bank robber who believed that rubbing your face with lemon juice rendered you invisible to video cameras.

Dunning wondered whether, since Wheeler was too stupid to be a bank robber, he might also be too stupid to know that he was too stupid to be a bank robber. In other words, his stupidity protected him from an awareness of his own stupidity.

Dunning wondered if the principle could be applied to more people than just Wheeler, and along with graduate student Justin Kruger, he wrote the paper, “Unskilled and Unaware of It: How Difficulties of Recognizing One’s Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-assessments.” (more…)

FORGOTTEN for Over 80 Years – Could this be the New Vitamin D?”
Considered unimportant and forgotten for decades, scientists worldwide are now recognizing its extraordinary benefits to your bones and heart health.* This is one vital nutrient you do NOT want to be deficient in…

It’s been over 10 years, since I began educating and helping people understand the importance of vitamin D… specifically, vitamin D3.

Of course, I wasn’t alone in this effort. Many others contributed to helping overcome some of the myths about sunlight and how critical vitamin D3 is to your overall health.

And now I believe another nutrient, appropriately labeled the ’forgotten vitamin,’ is about to explode in popularity as researchers are uncovering more of its spectacular health benefits every day.

Why has it been forgotten and somewhat ignored for over 80 years? (more…)

Do you know which of these will help you sleep?

Soporificity Tastes GOOD!

A number of my apparently sleep-deprived friends and colleagues, upon learning I planned to write about foods that might help people sleep better, have told me they’re eager to see what I come up with.

I so hate to disappoint them.

But it turns out science has yet to find a magical food that can send us right to slumberland.

“The bad news for people trying to talk about food and sleep is that . . . generally it’s hard to find foods that help with sleep,” says Michael Grandner, a sleep researcher at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Sleep and Respiratory Neurobiology.

“The easier question,” Grandner says, “is what are the things to avoid?” (more…)
