Magnesium balances brain chemistry, builds strong bones, and is associated with better mood and heart health.
Yet, this humble mineral ranks as perhaps the most undervalued and underconsumed of all the essential human nutrients.

Perhaps most importantly, lack of magnesium promotes various adverse arterial changes linked to cardiovascular disease and hypertension.
Unfortunately, relatively few Americans get the recommended daily allowance … which is 320 mg for women and 420 mg for men. (more…)

Back in the 1970s, a myth took hold concerning the apparent heart-health benefits of traditional Mediterranean-region diets.
Population studies had revealed suggestive statistical associations between the relatively good heart health of rural Italians, Greeks, and Spaniards and – among other dietary patterns – their copious consumption of olive oil.
Scientists guessed that olive oil might be heart healthy because, unlike most vegetable oils, it’s high in omega-9 monounsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid) instead of omega-6 fatty acids. (more…)

(NaturalNews) Newborns deficient in vitamin D are twice as likely as newborns with higher levels to develop respiratory infections, says a new study out of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Carlos Camargo and his team found that low blood levels of vitamin D are linked to markers of respiratory disease, indicating that increased sun exposure or supplementation with the vitamin by mothers during pregnancy may be the solution. (NaturalNews) Nearly half of the calories consumed by the average US child are empty junk food calories, according to a study conducted by researchers from the National Cancer Institute and published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.

Researchers evaluated the diets of children aged two to 18 using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. They found that the average child consumes 2,200 calories per day, more than that recommended for an adult woman. An astonishing 40 percent of these calories come from added sugars (365 calories) or solid fats (433 calories). (more…)

Dear David,

Ahhhhh … a giant plate of pasta the night before a big workout, long-distance run or a big game. It’s what all the athletes do, right? They load up on tons of carbs, so they can get the “extra energy” they’ll need.

Except that they don’t. Get the extra energy, I mean.

Conventional fitness trainers and nutritionists will tell you that pasta and carbohydrates are how you get the strength to perform at maximum capacity.

I’ve known this just doesn’t work. Now I have new evidence about why. (more…)

(NaturalNews) Babies who are exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life contract significantly fewer infections than babies fed from bottles, and get less sick even when they do get infected, according to a study published in the journal Archives of Disease in Childhood.

“This research is very welcome and adds to the growing weight of evidence about the many benefits of breastfeeding,” said Janet Fyle of the United Kingdom’s Royal College of Midwives. (more…)

(NaturalNews) Vitamin D deficiency may contribute to the development of breast cancer, according to a study conducted by researchers from the University of South Carolina and presented at the Third American Association for Cancer Research Conference on the Science of Cancer Health Disparities in Miami.

Researchers measured vitamin D levels in 107 women who had received a breast cancer diagnosis within the past five years. Not only was vitamin D deficiency widespread among the participants, but lower levels of the vitamin were also significantly correlated with triple-negative breast cancer. (more…)

Even India has put a stop to this deadly experiment. But doctors and U.S. governmental agencies still insist it’s essential for every adolescent girl. The death toll in the U.S. from this uncontrolled ‘medical experiment’ now stands at 89 with 20,575 reported adverse affects. The newest victims on the list? Nursing infants.

n April, the government of India called a halt to trials of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine. This came about because of a civil society-led investigation which highlighted serious ethical violations in at least one trial.

In India, civil society groups have long been voicing their concerns regarding the safety and efficacy of the two HPV vaccines, along with the aggressive promotion of the vaccines and the need to investigate reported deaths and adverse events post vaccination.

According to Economic and Political Weekly, the investigation that led to the ban highlights how: (more…)

amalgam fillingsA U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee has recommended that the agency take a new look at updated data on mercury amalgam dental fillings that may indicate medical problems for patients.

The committee also said that more information on amalgam fillings should be posted for both for patients and dentists.

According to CNN:

“Public pressure prompted the panel’s review, initiated less than 18 months after the agency’s decision. Committee members listened to testimony by consumer and dental groups claiming the FDA used flawed science when it set the current guidelines for mercury safety levels.”

Dear Rev. David,

Did you know we drank over 43 billion cans and bottles of diet soda last year?

Diet soda’s been on my mind lately because I’ve been reading the latest studies on diabetes. Did you know drinking diet soda leads to diabetes?

One recent study says point blank that if you drink diet soda every day, you’re 67 percent more likely to develop diabetes.1

And the more you drink, the worse it is. Another study found that those who drank the most diet soda had a 34 percent greater risk than those who drank the least.2 (more…)
