Someone ought to get an award for this.
We know the facts, but this brings it into perspective quickly, doesn’t it? Each cube is a teaspoonful.
B-complex vitamins are the Rodney Dangerfield of nutritional supplements—they don’t get no respect. All multivitamins contain a smattering of B vitamins, so what else do you need to know? Actually, there’s a lot of new research, especially on folic acid, vitamin B12, and vitamin B6. Here are 5 reasons why you should be taking these three vitamins—and at dosages higher than what you’re likely taking now.
1. Stay Mentally Sharp
We lose about two percent of our brain volume every decade as we get older. Although this is a normal part of aging, accelerated atrophy is linked with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. British researchers studied annual blood tests and MRI scans of older men and women and found that those with the lowest blood levels of vitamin B12 had a sixfold greater risk of excessive brain volume loss.
2. Prevent Cardiovascular Disease
An elevated level of homocysteine—a toxic amino acid that damages the arteries—is a well-established risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Several clinical trials have demonstrated that supplemental folic acid and vitamins B6 and B12, which lower homocysteine, reduce risk of stroke, heart attack, and other cardiovascular problems.
3. Boost Your Energy
Vitamin B12 is an excellent energy booster. We offer B12 and magnesium injections at the clinic, and they’re so energizing that some patients learn how to self-inject so they can continue them at home. High doses of oral B12 also improves energy, especially in people who have low levels to begin with.
4. Lift Your Mood Folic acid, B6, and B12 also improve mood. These vitamins play an indirect, but critical role in the formation of serotonin and other neurotransmitters, and deficiencies—as well as high levels of homocysteine—are linked with mood disorders. Although B-complex vitamins are not a stand-alone treatment for depression, they’re an important adjunct.
5. Get a Handle on Migraines
Researchers from “Down Under” have discovered that people who have migraines with aura are more likely to have mutations in a gene that leads to elevated levels of homocysteine. When they gave these migraine sufferers high doses of folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 for six months, their homocysteine levels fell by 39 percent and their migraine disability scores were cut in half.
How much should you take? Forget about the RDAs. As an example, the RDA of B12 for adults is just 2.4 mcg per day. Dutch researchers found that normalizing a mild B12 deficiency, however, required between 647 and 1,032 mcg—300–500 times more than the RDA! Look for the recommended supplements in your local health food store, online, or by calling (800) 810-6655.
Today, I will let you in on an unusual chain of events that led researchers to discover that after all, there is another mineral besides calcium that plays a crucial role in osteoporosis. And that nutrition matters. I call it an out-of-laboratory experience…
Here’s what happened. The winter of 2005 turned out to be unusually cold in Spain. And on that same year, scientists at the Research Institute of Hunting Resources (IREC) noticed that deers’ antlers were breaking at an alarming rate. Nobody could figure out the reason for this strange occurrence.
Fast forward to January of this year, when the study that solved the mystery was published in the Frontiers of Bioscience journal.1 Conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) and IREC, their findings and conclusion will most likely rattle the mainstream medical establishment. Did You Know…
… that more than 75% of all commercial honey is “fake honey”—and is devoid of all health and medicinal benefits?
The medicinal and nutritional value of honey is no secret. We have been using honey as a sugar substitute in our tea for years, as a flavorful topping for our toast and English muffins, and even as a tonic for sore, scratchy throats. Some even slather it on their skin, hoping to capitalize on honey’s antioxidant and anti-microbial properties.
Unfortunately, American consumers have been deceived. Chances are the honey we have been enjoying is nothing more than a mixture of sugar water, malt sweeteners, corn rice syrup and other non-nutritional additives.
According to a very recent report in Food Safety News (FSN) three-fourths of the honey on American shelves is ultra-processed and devoid of all medicinal properties. FSN researchers analyzed 60 jars, jugs and plastic “bears” of honey that lined the shelves of food stores in 10 states and the District of Columbia, to see if the honey lived up to the standards set by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The results are shocking:
76 percent of the honey in major grocery stores contained no pollen.
77 percent of the honey in warehouse stores, such as Costco, Walmart and Target, was pollen-free.
100 percent of the honey in drugstores was absent of pollen.
100 percent of the individual honey packets produced by chains like Smuckers, McDonald’s and KFC had no pollen.
What is the significance of pollen-free honey?
According to the FDA, honey without pollen is essentially fake honey. The organization maintains that if a “honey” product has been filtered to the degree that there are no longer any microscopic pollen particles, then that product is not honey.
While the standards set by the FDA match the standards set by the World Health Organization and the European Commission, the FDA does not monitor imported honey to ensure that it comes from safe and sanctioned sources. The lack of a U.S. standard of identification explains the overwhelming amount of fake honey being sold in America.
What’s the motivation for ultra-processing? (more…)

Words can – and do – make a big difference. Perhaps the use of the word “lies” in today’s blog post title may sound a bit harsh to you. In fact, at first I wrote “myths” instead, but I soon realized that it didn’t apply.
As defined by the online dictionary, a myth is “an unfounded or false notion.” A lie is “something meant to deceive or give a wrong impression.” Notice the subtle difference between the two. Myths are not created with a specific purpose; they simply spring up and innocently continue into the future. And myths typically develop over a long period of time, passed on from generation to generation. On the other hand, lies have a purpose, they are invented to fulfill an agenda. As the definition states, lies are “meant to deceive.”
Once you’ll read what’s coming up next, I’m pretty sure you’ll agree with me: it is perfectly warranted to use the word “lies” instead of “myths”.
Let’s take a look now at the top five osteoporosis lies. (more…)

America has a drinking problem. No, not booze. I’m talking about soft drinks. According to the Beverage Marketing Corporation, the average American guzzles 44.7 gallons of the sweet stuff every year. Not sure what 44.7 gallons looks like? It’s about what you’d need to fill a small kiddie pool.
But the truth is, you don’t need me to tell you that soda isn’t healthy. We all know that America’s drink of choice contributes to our country’s ever-expanding obesity problem. But, as Rodale.com writer Leah Zerbe discovered, love handles are just the beginning. Read on for her report on three shocking soda facts that will have you saying “Just water, please” from now on.

Blood pressure can be tough control even in youth, and as we age maintaining it can become a challenge. In part, this is because our veins and arteries become less flexible with age.
Fortunately, there are some simple steps you can take to keep your blood pressure in the normal range and your circulatory health stable. One of these involves a little-known quick fix that you can find at your local grocery store: the blueberry.
Blood pressure: Cuffs and collars matter
Everyone has a blood pressure. It’s a pair of numbers that are constantly changing. Most health experts say that blood pressure needs to hover between 90/60 and 120/80 to be considered “healthy.” (more…)

ALWAYS READ THE LABELS ON THE FOODS YOU BUY–
NO MATTER WHAT THE FRONT OF THE BOX OR
PACKAGE SAYS, TURN IT OVER AND
READ THE BACK—CAREFULLY!
With all the food and pet products now coming from China,
it is best to make sure you read label at the grocery store and
especially Walmart when buying food products.
Many products no longer show where they were made, only give
where the distributor is located.
It is important to read the bar code to track it’s origin.
How to read Bar Codes …. interesting!
This may be useful to know when grocery shopping, if it’s a concern to you.
GREATWAY TO“BUY USA & CANADA “ AND NOT FROMCHINA!!
The whole world is concerned about China-made “black hearted goods”.
Can you differentiate which one is made in Taiwan or China? If the first 3 digits of the barcode are 690691 or 692, the product is
MADE IN CHINA. 471 is Made in Taiwan .
This is our right to know, but the government and related departments
never educate the public, therefore we have to RESCUE ourselves. Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer
products “MADE IN CHINA “, so they don’t show from which country it
is made.
However, you may now refer to the barcode – remember if the first 3 digits are:
690-692 … then it is MADE IN CHINA
00 – 09 … USA & CANADA
30 – 37 FRANCE 40 – 44 GERMANY 471 … Taiwan
49 … JAPAN 50 … UK
BUY USA & CANADIAN MADE by watching for“0” at the beginning of the number.
We need every boost we can get! Pass this on to everybody on your E-Mail Contact List!!
If the government won’t help us, we MUST help ourselves.

Anti-inflammatory foods may help you reduce inflammation. The symptoms of inflammation include swelling, redness and pain.
Anti-Inflammatory Diet
An anti-inflammatory diet focuses on foods that help your body create the right kind of prostaglandins, or hormones that help the body regulate inflammation. In part, you want to eat foods that have the right types of fat so that your body will make anti-inflammatory prostaglandins and avoid the foods that have fat that leads to the production of inflammatory prostaglandins.
Good Anti-Inflammatory Foods
You will want to eat foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, an acid that is important to your health that your body is incapable of manufacturing. Not only can foods that have omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation, these foods may help reduce the risks of developing heart disease, osteoporosis and high blood pressure. Foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids include:
Salmon
Trout
Albacore tuna
Walnuts
Brazil nuts
Almonds
Wild fish tends to have more omega-3 fatty acids than do farm raised fish.
In addition, look for foods that have high levels of vitamins A, C and E. There are many foods that are good sources of these vitamins, including:
Garbanzo beans
Brown rice
Lentils
Broccoli
Cantaloupe
Tomatoes
Spinach
Sweet potatoes
Carrots
Peaches
Strawberries
Where would foods be without spices? Anti-inflammatory spices can add “zing” to your meals. Experiment with spices including:
Cinnamon
Rosemary
Mint
Basil
Cloves
Ginger
Turmeric
Parsley
Oregano
If you use oils, focus on extra virgin olive oil.
Try to avoid eating processed foods as much as possible as processed foods contain polyunsaturated and partly hydrogenated fats, a big no-no as far as inflammation and your health overall.
An anti-inflammatory diet is basically a healthy, low fat diet. Not only might you feel fewer aches and pains if you include more of these foods in your meals, you may also lose weight

Thanks to mass fluoridation of our municipal water supplies and inclusion of man-made fluoride in toothpastes and other dental and consumer products, most of us regularly consume dangerous amounts of unnatural fluoride compounds. Despite claims of dental health improvement, such fluoride actually leads to worse dental health as well as a host of other very serious health consequences. Though it may be next to impossible to avoid fluoride entirely, there are many steps one can take to avoid much of the fluoride we consume as well as eliminate existing fluoride in our bodies. There’s no denying. We live in a stressful world, and this can unfortunately affect a lot more than just our mood. As I write in the Save Our Bones Program, stress actually hurts our bones because,
“Stress is an acidifying process because of cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. The secretion of cortisol has the same effect on the alkaline/acid balance as when you eat highly acidifying foods” (more…)
Having Worked at Unilevers Premier Margarine Factory in the UK for 1 Year, as a Management Trainee, and then in Sri Lanka Managing Margarine Manufacture, I can safely admit that what you are about to read is true !!
Pass The Butter …. Please.
This is interesting . … .
Margarine was originallymanufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.
It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings…. DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter? Read on to the end…gets very interesting! Both have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine. Eating margarinecan increaseheart diseasein women by 53%over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added! Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods. Butter has been around for centuries where margarinehas been around for less than 100 years.
And now, for Margarine.. Very High in Trans fatty acids. Triples risk of coronary heart disease …
Increases total cholesteroland LDL(this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol) Increases the risk of cancers up to five times.. Lowers quality of breast milk Decreases immune response Decreases insulin response. And here’s the most disturbing fact… HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING! Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC… And shares 27 ingredients with PAINT
These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).
Open a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:
* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?
Share This With Your Friends…..(If you want to butter them up’)!
Chinese Proverb:
When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others.
They say that abs are made in the kitchen. If you’re working hard toward a six-pack, why not start stocking up on these foods today?
1. Plain or Greek yogurt: We all know that yogurt is good for us, but did you know it’s also good for maintaining your flat abs? For a nice mid-section, nutritionist and owner of Essential Nutrition For You Rania Batayneh says to reach for the kind that’s plain flavored or Greek. “The probiotic bacteria in most yogurts help keep your digestive system healthy, which translates into a lower incidence of gas, bloating, and constipation, which can keep your tummy looking flat.” (more…)
Celery is more than just a low calorie snack you eat when dieting, it can also help you lower blood pressure.
Celery contains apigenin, a substance know to help lower high blood pressure. One studies found a reduced blood pressure in 14 out of 16 individuals that were given celery.
Here are some options to take advantage of the benefits of celery:
Eat 4 celery stalks each day.
Consume 8 teaspoons of celery juice 3 times a day.
Take 1000 mg of celery seed extract twice a day.
Take ½ to 1 teaspoon of celery oil 3 times a day in tincture form.
The above recommendations come from Dr. Mark Houston. Discuss all supplements with your MD!
