Today, I will let you in on an unusual chain of events that led researchers to discover that after all, there is another mineral besides calcium that plays a crucial role in osteoporosis. And that nutrition matters. I call it an out-of-laboratory experience…
Here’s what happened. The winter of 2005 turned out to be unusually cold in Spain. And on that same year, scientists at the Research Institute of Hunting Resources (IREC) noticed that deers’ antlers were breaking at an alarming rate. Nobody could figure out the reason for this strange occurrence.
Fast forward to January of this year, when the study that solved the mystery was published in the Frontiers of Bioscience journal.1 Conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) and IREC, their findings and conclusion will most likely rattle the mainstream medical establishment. By Dr. Mercola
All across the United States, people are fighting for their right not to be injected with vaccines against their will.
Currently, the Colorado Board of Health has been holding hearings on whether or not to adopt a new rule that would mandate healthcare workers get an annual flu vaccine — with NO religious or personal exemption, while a federal vaccine advisory committee has recently voted to encourage hospitals and medical facilities to require health care workers get an annual flu shot as a condition of employment.
Other states are faring a bit better.
In New Jersey, Governor Christie recently pocket vetoed a bill that would mandate flu vaccine for the state’s health care workers. (When a bill is “pocket vetoed” it is not returned to the legislature for a possible vote to override the veto.)
And in West Virginia, where residents can currently only obtain a medical exemption for vaccination, a new bill has been introduced that could expand exemptions to religious and conscientious reasons.
Parents in Kansas are also fighting for more vaccine exemption rights, along with those in Florida and Mississippi.
This is good news.
But in the state of Vermont, there are bills in the House and Senate to strip the right to exercise a philosophical exemption to vaccination from state public health laws.
Parents are opposing the legislation that is being supported by state public health officials and medical trade associations.
In Arizona, public health officials and medical trade groups are pushing bills to require doctors to sign off on religious and philosophical exemptions to vaccination, which is similar to a law that passed in Washington state last year..
At present, all but two states (West Virginia and Mississippi) allow religious exemption to vaccination.
In the video above, Barbara Loe Fisher, co-founder of the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), discusses this important exemption, and why it’s so vital we defend our right to opt out of vaccinations for medical-, religious-, or conscientious belief reasons.
All Americans need to know their options for legally opting-out of vaccinations, and you also need to know why it’s so important to protect this legal option, whether you choose to use every federally recommended vaccine for yourself and your children or not.
Forced Vaccinations for Health Care Workers—A Real Threat to Health and Liberty
The right to make an informed, voluntary vaccination choice for yourself (or your child) should be an inalienable human right because it involves taking a risk with a pharmaceutical product that could cause harm or even death. There is no guarantee that taking a vaccine (or any other drug) will not cause a complication and lead to serious injury. Yet we’ve seen time and again how government tries to take away our human right to say ‘aye’ or ‘nay’ to potentially hazardous medical interventions like vaccination. (more…)

More info I found out:
Unfortunately, the codes do not prove that a product does (or does not) originate in a particular country. This is because products can be made, or grown, in one country and then processed in another, where the bar code is actually assigned.
If food grown in China, or other tainted products made there, are shipped to other countries for final packaging before coming to the U.S., the bar code will show the final country, not the country of origin. So in the case of, for example, Chinese apple juice that’s shipped here and then packaged and sold by U.S. companies, those packages are going to have a U.S. code, not a Chinese code.
So relying on the bar code will not keep people safe from Chinese (or other foreign) products that are toxic or otherwise unsafe. The best way to find out where something came from is still to look for the “Made in [Country XYZ]” label on the packaging.
Here is the link for anyone who wants to read further about it:

Greek yogurt
They say that abs are made in the kitchen. If you’re working hard toward a six-pack, why not start stocking up on these foods today?
1. Plain or Greek yogurt: We all know that yogurt is good for us, but did you know it’s also good for maintaining your flat abs? For a nice mid-section, nutritionist and owner of Essential Nutrition For You Rania Batayneh says to reach for the kind that’s plain flavored or Greek. “The probiotic bacteria in most yogurts help keep your digestive system healthy, which translates into a lower incidence of gas, bloating, and constipation, which can keep your tummy looking flat.” (more…)

Pimpinella anisum, endearingly called Aniseed or Anise (Chotti Saunf), is a native of the Mediterranean area. Mostly found in fragrances and cosmetics, Anise is a sweet aromatic flowering plant of the Apiaxeae family. The herbs is recognized as one due to its medicinal properties with a variety of elements like calcium, vitamin B, iron, potassium, chlorine and magnesium.
Anise benefits
- A cure for cold symptoms: coughs, asthma, pneumonia and excessive mucus. It is a good expectorant.
- Treats indigestion, nausea, gas and bloating. A good appetite enhancer, Anise, also helps the digestive system.
- An aid to lactation. The herb takes up the estrogenic effect to produce breast milk in women.
- Topical application helps in the treatment of scabies and lice. It is a wonderful antiseptic.
- Aniseed oil is used as a natural aphrodisiac with its testosterone effect and was used eons ago to increase libido. The smell of the oil resembles that of black licorice. It is an aromatherapy oil used to relax, relieve pain and to cure minor abrasions.
- Experts remark that the herb can also vitalize major organs and glands like lungs, brain, heart and liver.
Uses of Anise:
- Anise tea can be made by boiling the crushed seeds in water for 20 minutes. Drinking this helps in gastric problems. This can be taken after a large meal.
- Warm anise tea with honey can help cold related symptoms. Add some ginger and tulsi for the perfect herbal tea.
- If you like the aniseed flavor add some powder in to your sweets. It can also be used with cinnamon for a unique flavour.
- Sucking the seeds are said to give an aphrodisiac effect!
- A glass of warm milk with a few seeds can cure insomnia.
- Chewing anise can freshen up your mouth.
Always buy fresh green colored anise. You may store them as they are or powder them and store in an airtight container. Refrigerating is a good idea. However, excess usage should be avoided.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) — Florida will be hit the hardest by the closing of Sears and Kmart stores, losing 11, according to a preliminary list of 79 planned closures released Thursday. Ohio, Michigan and Georgia are not far behind with six store closures planned in their states. Tennessee, North Carolina and Minnesota are set to lose four stores each. A spokeswoman for Sears Holding Corp. said each store employs between 40 and 80 people. None of the closures announced so far are in Sears’ home state of Illinois. The 125-year-old retailer said on Tuesday it would close up to 120 stores to raise cash. The projected closings represent only about 3 percent of Sears Holdings’ U.S. stores. Sears and Kmart merged in 2005. The company now has about 3,560 stores in the U.S. That’s up from 3,500 immediately after the merger. Here is the list of closures announced so far http://www.searsmedia.com/tools/122711_close.pdf : (more…)

WOW! New Stuff!!
Dr. Mercola
Story at-a-glance
- The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the primary agency of the United States government responsible for biomedical and health-related research and is considered one of the leading health expert institutions in the world. Its mission is to uncover new knowledge that will lead to better health for everyone
- The NIH got a lot of facts wrong in a recent newsletter. While agreeing you need some fat in your diet to stay healthy, they incorrectly demonize saturated fats while promoting vegetable oils like corn and canola oil, and the levels of recommended fat intake is far too low for most individuals who see optimal health
- The NIH also incorrectly states that the source of calories is not as important as the overall number of calories, when in fact the opposite is true. Calories from fats, protein, sugar/fructose and grains are not interchangeable. In order for calorie restriction to improve your health and normalize your weight, you must restrict calories specifically from carbs (sugars and grains)
- When reducing carbs, you need to increase healthy fats in your diet. Replacing carbs with protein is not recommended, as it can cause adverse hormone changes
- Emerging evidence suggests most people need about 50-70 percent of their diet (calories) as healthy fats, which include organically-raised grass-fed meats, coconut oil, olives and olive oil, avocado, nuts, organic pastured egg yolks, and butter made from raw grass-fed milk

Merry Christmas! -- Herc
Talk about an image makeover: First prunes got a new name (they’re dried plums, if you please), and now it seems they offer a previously unrecognized benefit: They’re good for your bones. In fact, says nutrition researcher Bahram H. Arjmandi, RD, at Florida State University, midlife women who ate ten prunes daily for a year slowed their bone loss substantially. If ten sounds daunting, even three a day can make a difference, says Arjmandi, who adds that prunes are the most bone-friendly fruit he’s seen in decades of study. Since women can lose up to 20 percent of their bone mass in the seven years after menopause, that’s good news.
It’s especially welcome because hopes for a different natural fix were recently dashed. Soy supplements did nothing for bones in menopausal women who took a hefty dose for two years. (The supplements didn’t cool hot flashes either.) So eat tofu if you like it, but for your bones’ sake, start snacking on prunes. Unless the thought makes you feel old. In that case, have some dried plums.

We Said, "NO SHOES!!" Capiche?!
In some countries and cultures it’s disgraceful and disrespectful to walk into a home with shoes on. But in the U.S. it is not and most people do.
Many people are unaware of just how dirty and polluted their shoe soles can be. “Good Morning America” tested the bottoms of eight different people’s shoes, as well as two dogs’ paws, for bacteria. Shoes contained the most bacteria of all—66 million organisms.
In a recent study at the University of Arizona nine different species of bacteria were found on people’s shoes. These types of bacteria can cause infections in stomachs, eyes and lungs. Bacteria lives longer on shoes since we keep constantly picking up new debris that feeds the growth of more bacteria. More than 90% of the time the bacteria was transferred to tile floors and even more to carpeting. (more…)

Have you ever wondered why so many baking recipes call for unsalted butter? From a test kitchen perspective, it’s simple.
Unsalted butter is primarily used in baking where you don’t have the luxury of tasting your food as you go. It’s not easy to determine if you have the right amount of salt in a raw cake batter. Therefore, practice makes perfect, and a calculated amount of salt is defined.
In cooking, commonly the smallest amount of salt is used for seasoning – therefore salted butter is called for. It has a slightly longer shelf life than unsalted butter and is more typically found in the average household fridge. In recipes, it often serves double duty as a fat and a seasoning. (more…)

According to a new UK study involving Apple and the London School of Economics – reported by Hannah Thomas at Marie Claire – people are happiest when they are having sex, exercising, and visiting the theatre. Sure, the having sex part is a no brainer. The exercise part is a bit surprising; people are often pretty happy when they’ve finished exercising – your feel-good hormones are coursing through your body and you have a great sense of accomplishment – but the during part can be quite a struggle. And the theatre? Hey, I like theatre – but I only get there a few times a year, and I imagine only very few people make it part of their regular routine. (more…)
