A Healthy Lifetime of Intimacy

                                        (800) 488-1500 www.whitakerwellness.com No doubt about it, sexual desire and function slow down as we get older. What doesn’t change, however, is our lifelong need for intimacy. For many people, that includes satisfying sexual relations. It’s important for men and women to understand the challenges they and their partners face during this time of transition—and to be aware of therapies that enhance libido and performance in both sexes.

Good Health = Good Sex
You can’t expect to have topnotch sexual function if you have poor overall health. Hypertension, cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled diabetes, and other disorders involving impaired circulation are commonly linked with sexual dysfunction. That’s because optimal blood flow is required to produce erections in men and clitoral engorgement in women. Other conditions that can affect interest in sex and the ability to act on that interest include anxiety, depression, hormonal imbalances, chronic pain, and neurological problems. Once these health issues are tackled, desire and function often return. (more…)

Fact or Myth: Do Genetically Modified Foods Cause Cancer, Lung Damage & Birth Defects?

This is a fact.

In order to make crops more resistant to pests, scientists insert a special gene, called Bt-toxin – derived from Bacillus thuringiensis bacteria – into corn and cotton plants. The toxin attacks the stomach lining of nibbling insects, killing the pests within a couple of days of ingestion. More than 65 percent of U.S. corn crops contain this special gene that produces the insecticide.

Another alarming fact: 80% of the processed food items in your local supermarket contain genetically modified ingredients. This means that if you are a U. S resident, you are undoubtedly eating genetically modified foods.

These genetically modified foods have been sneaking into our diets since 1995, when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) analyzed the first genetically engineered plant – corn. Today, 90% of several U.S. crops are grown with genetically engineered seed. genetically modified foods

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are “organisms in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in such a way that it does not occur naturally.” Scientists insert a gene from one organism into another to “improve” or change the organism.

The biotech companies and the EPA assure us that genetically engineered toxins such as Bt-toxin are safe. They claim that it dissolves quickly in our stomachs, and won’t cause any side effects because humans and other mammals have no receptors for the toxin. This assertion arouses suspicion, as the Bt-toxin belongs to a family of bacteria (Bacillus Cerus) that cause food poisoning in humans. (more…)

New nutrition labels may help consumers make healthier choices

Scanning the shelves at Loblaw’s grocery stores, shoppers might notice a change to the President’s Choice line: labels that adorn Blue Menu products, its healthier options, are newly redesigned. On the box of Fibre First cereal, two green arrows sit next to the Blue Menu logo. One points up, indicating it’s “very high in ?bre”; the other points down, and says it’s “low in fat.” On Blue Menu Angus burgers, a down arrow indicates reduced fat (compared to regular ones). The whole range of products is now marked with these arrows. It’s a small tweak, but Loblaw is hoping new labels will make it easier for consumers to make healthier choices, if they’re so inclined. Those arrows “put the product’s nutritional bene?ts front and centre,” says Al Lindsay, vice-president of brand marketing. (more…)

Restful Sleep

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

There are 3 pillars of good health: Nutrition, Exercise and Sleep. The first two are the most heard about and take more effort, but sleep still seems to be forgotten. Restful sleep is needed nightly by people of all ages. Children need good sleep to maintain healthy growth. Student and young adults often put social life and school activities before their sleep, which can have a detrimental effect on their memory and information retention, as well as open their immune systems to diseases.  Adults are the most likely culprits to short themselves on rest, due to busy schedules, work, and especially new parents. Top 7 myths about sleep

By Cynthia Ross Cravit | 50Plus.com – Mon, 19 Mar, 2012

In the ongoing quest for better sleep, we debunk some of the top myths about sleep, plus offer tips to help you get your zzz’s.

Insomnia affects about 40 per cent of Canadians on a regular basis, experts say, and sleep deprivation is having an ongoing effect on our physical and psychological health.

Poor sleep can lead to a number of serious health problems, including an increased risk for obesity, stress and even diseases like diabetes and hypertension.

Getting the right amount of sleep each night can also protect cognitive health and keep the brain years younger. A recent study found that middle-aged adults who slept less than six hours each night — and more than eight hours — are more likely to experience cognitive decline. This decline in brain function is equal to being four to seven years older, according to researchers. (For more information, see Smart sleeping.) (more…)

We women get a such bad rap for being the beautiful, emotional creatures we are, but admit it: We can be some moody wenches sometimes. Whether it’s hormonal — PMS, pregnancy, menopause — or astrological (Geminis are notorious for mood swings; Pisces swim in their emotions; don’t ever cross a Scorpio) — we’re not always whistling Dixie. But the next time you feel the crank coming on you might be able to head it off by simply sipping a tall glass of cold water. (more…)

“Miracles Happen at the Whitaker Wellness Institute”

I opened the Whitaker Wellness Institute in 1979. My first Back to Health Program consisted of just nine patients who stayed with me for two weeks. We exercised together, ate meals prepared to my specifications, and I gave talks on various topics. I was amazed at the power of lifestyle changes as my patients lost weight, got off drugs, and experienced marked improvements in their quality of life.Diet and exercise—plus targeted nutritional supplements—are still cornerstones of the clinic. Patients continue to come and stay for one to three weeks, eat healthy meals prepared by our gourmet chef, engage in exercise, and attend lectures, workshops and a plethora of therapies. Being totally immersed in a wellness lifestyle—especially when you’re surrounded by others who share your challenges and goals—is the easiest way to break old habits and establish new ones. Our patients invariably feel better, lose weight, and gain confidence that they can do this on their own once they return home. Whitaker Wellness is, in a sense, a rejuvenation boot camp.

I want to share with you one of the many letters that I have received from patients who had life-changing experiences after coming to the Whitaker Wellness Institute. This one is from a woman with a long history of diabetes.

“Turning Challenges Into Blessings!”

“I went to the Whitaker Wellness Institute for help with my diabetes, and blood pressure. I’d also been gaining weight and my legs had swollen up like posts. I had so much discomfort that I went to local doctors to try to find what was causing it and tried a variety of different medications, but nothing helped.

“At the Whitaker Wellness Institute, I got the help I needed! My medical doctor there, who is trained in Western and holistic medicine, helped me get off insulin. Yes, I stopped all insulin! I had been taking 170+ units of insulin per day, but my blood sugar was still high, in the 200-300 range. Now it is lower than that—without taking insulin—and my body is now learning to handle its own insulin, with a boost from the vitamins.

“Yes, I am on a diet, but far from an impossible one. I eat vegetables, fruit, meat, nuts, juice, etc., so it’s easy and healthy. I know a lot of my excess weight was built-up fluids, but I’ve lost 23 pounds since changing my diet. I am not thin, nor do I expect to be. But thinner and healthier I do expect!

“Miracles Happen”

“If you have health challenges, the Whitaker Wellness Institute is the place to help you tackle them. It’s not an easy fix, but it is well worth the time and effort. This experience will benefit me for the rest of my life, and I wasn’t alone. I saw many others who were in treatment with me at Whitaker Wellness receive a new lease on life. Miracles happened both weeks I was there—people with all kinds of health conditions getting stronger and better.” — Neena

How to Clean Up the Pineal Gland (7 simple steps)

Cleaning up the Pineal Gland is useful for those wishing to develop their multidimensional perception. The Pineal gland will naturally make its own DMT when fully operational and we will be able to remain in a visionary state most of the time. An awakened pineal gland brings the ability to consciously astral travel, explore other dimensions, foresee the future and receive communications from loving dimensional beings.

DMT is a component of Ayahuasca – a plant medicine from the Amazon that brings profound physical and heart healing through its purgative effects and the perception of other dimensions. Those that use this medicine go into a period of “work” where issues come into awareness and can be healed with the insights that come from DMT consciousness. (more…)

Find out what to eat and drink to catch more quality zzz’s

By Sarah Jio

Trying to get more shut-eye? Take a look at your diet. Eating the right foods in the hours before you hit the hay may help you fall asleep faster, say experts, and even improve the quality of your sleep. Keep reading for your get-sleepy grocery list, and remember to stop noshing two hours before bedtime to give your body enough time to properly digest.
Almonds

“Almonds are a winner,” says Jacob Teitelbaum, MD, medical director of the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers, and author of the bestselling book From Fatigued to Fantastic! “They contain magnesium, which promotes both sleep and muscle relaxation,” he says. “And they have the added benefit of supplying proteins that can help maintain a stable blood sugar level while sleeping, and help promote sleep by switching you from your alert adrenaline cycle to your rest-and-digest cycle.” Try this bedtime snack: Have a tablespoon of almond butter or a 1-ounce portion of almonds to help your body relax. A Detoxifier PAR EXCELLENCE!

Did You Know…

…that a powerful medicinal clay has been shown to be one of the most effective detoxification substances when taken internally?

Medicinal clays are all-natural, alternative healing substances that have been used since prehistoric times.  Often, they are used for external purposes, such as in mud baths at health spas.  What most people don’t know, however, is that medicinal clays can dramatically revitalize your health when taken internally, as well.

The health benefits of medicinal clays include detoxification and energy boosting, with profound health effects for your digestive system … skin … internal organs … immune system … and entire body.

One of the most powerful medicinal clays is made of aged volcanic ash.  Though it can be found in several different areas around the globe, the largest and most popular deposits are located near Fort Benton, Wyoming.  Thus the name:  bentonite clay. (more…)

Diet and Supplements for High Triglycerides

You probably know your cholesterol level, but what about your triglycerides? If your level of this blood fat is higher than 150 mg/dL, you may be at increased risk of cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. Very high levels can even lead to pancreatitis, a painful inflammation of the pancreas. Fortunately, lowering triglycerides is relatively easy—and drug-free approaches are the safest, most effective way to go about it.

First, be aware that certain drugs, such as diuretics, estrogen, tamoxifen, glucocorticoids, and beta-blockers, drive up triglycerides, so talk to your doctor if you’re on any of these medications.

Next, reduce your intake of sugar and other refined carbohydrates. These foods cause spikes in blood sugar, and excess blood sugar is converted to triglycerides (which are then stored as fat and contribute to weight gain). You should also cut back on alcohol, engage in regular aerobic exercise, and lose weight—all of which lower triglyceride levels.

Finally, take fish oil (4–8 g) and/or niacin (500–1,500 mg). Both of these supplements have been shown in numerous clinical trials to reduce triglycerides by up to one-third.

Look for the recommended supplements in your local health food store, online, or by calling (800) 810-6655. To make an appointment for treatment at the Whitaker Wellness Institute, call (800) 488-1500.

Benefits of B Vitamins

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

B-complex vitamins are the Rodney Dangerfield of nutritional supplements—they don’t get no respect. All multivitamins contain a smattering of B vitamins, so what else do you need to know? Actually, there’s a lot of new research, especially on folic acid, vitamin B12, and vitamin B6. Here are 5 reasons why you should be taking these three vitamins—and at dosages higher than what you’re likely taking now.

1. Stay Mentally Sharp
We lose about two percent of our brain volume every decade as we get older. Although this is a normal part of aging, accelerated atrophy is linked with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. British researchers studied annual blood tests and MRI scans of older men and women and found that those with the lowest blood levels of vitamin B12 had a sixfold greater risk of excessive brain volume loss.

2. Prevent Cardiovascular Disease
An elevated level of homocysteine—a toxic amino acid that damages the arteries—is a well-established risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Several clinical trials have demonstrated that supplemental folic acid and vitamins B6 and B12, which lower homocysteine, reduce risk of stroke, heart attack, and other cardiovascular problems.

3. Boost Your Energy
Vitamin B12 is an excellent energy booster. We offer B12 and magnesium injections at the clinic, and they’re so energizing that some patients learn how to self-inject so they can continue them at home. High doses of oral B12 also improves energy, especially in people who have low levels to begin with.

4. Lift Your Mood
Folic acid, B6, and B12 also improve mood. These vitamins play an indirect, but critical role in the formation of serotonin and other neurotransmitters, and deficiencies—as well as high levels of homocysteine—are linked with mood disorders. Although B-complex vitamins are not a stand-alone treatment for depression, they’re an important adjunct.

5. Get a Handle on Migraines
Researchers from “Down Under” have discovered that people who have migraines with aura are more likely to have mutations in a gene that leads to elevated levels of homocysteine. When they gave these migraine sufferers high doses of folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 for six months, their homocysteine levels fell by 39 percent and their migraine disability scores were cut in half.

How much should you take?
Forget about the RDAs. As an example, the RDA of B12 for adults is just 2.4 mcg per day. Dutch researchers found that normalizing a mild B12 deficiency, however, required between 647 and 1,032 mcg—300–500 times more than the RDA! Look for the recommended supplements in your local health food store, online, or by calling (800) 810-6655.

Shock Study: Link Between Deer Antlers and Osteoporosis Discovered

Shock Study: Link Between Deer Antlers and Osteoporosis Discovered
Nutrition by .

Today, I will let you in on an unusual chain of events that led researchers to discover that after all, there is another mineral besides calcium that plays a crucial role in osteoporosis. And that nutrition matters. I call it an out-of-laboratory experience…

Here’s what happened. The winter of 2005 turned out to be unusually cold in Spain. And on that same year, scientists at the Research Institute of Hunting Resources (IREC) noticed that deers’ antlers were breaking at an alarming rate. Nobody could figure out the reason for this strange occurrence.

Fast forward to January of this year, when the study that solved the mystery was published in the Frontiers of Bioscience journal.1 Conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) and IREC, their findings and conclusion will most likely rattle the mainstream medical establishment.
